What is Google Pagerank (PR), how to measure it and improve it on our website? Nowadays, Pagerank is a data that Google no longer shows directly, but nevertheless it is still a very important factor to take into account when it comes to improving the visibility of your content and your website in general. We can say that if you know this factor thoroughly and you are able to control it, you will be able to improve the SEO Positioning of each one of the URL's that make up your site. But for you to better understand all this ins and outs of concepts and procedures, let's start at the beginning, explaining what Pagerank is to then comment on how we can positively influence it , let's start! Pagerank ( PR ) is an algorithm created in 1999 by Google with the aim of numerically measuring the relevance and importance of a Web page, assigning a numerical value to that URL. This numerical range or score (from 1 to 10), is one of the many factors that the search engine applies to each URL of a website, to finally decide in what order they will appear in the search engine's results list. It was for a long time the most important factor when it came to positioning higher and even today, although Google no longer makes it known and there are many voices that take away its importance, for me it continues to have significant weight within the search engine. It is based on the following mathematical formula: What is page rank? Which tells us that this concept coming from a certain URL is defined by the sum of the Pagerank received by the links that are given from other pages to it. The one that sends us each of those pages is defined by the one that receives divided by the outgoing links that it has. To all this is added a constant called « Damping factor » , which reduces the transmitted PR. How does Pagerank work exactly? The indicated formula is based on the initial conception, which aims to simulate the existing probability that a user who navigates completely randomly (random surfer) from link to link may end up at a certain URL. Bearing in mind that this random navigation cannot really be postponed to infinity, it was decided to include the Damping factor in the formula, in order to be able to subtract it for each new link, so that as we go forward, we reduce the probability, since there will come a time when our user gets up and turns off the computer. If we think a little more phone number database about the latter, you have to keep in mind that, as you go deeper into your website to reach a certain page, that is, the further you go or the more clicks you have to make from the home to get access to a given URL, the lower the Pagerank or authority received by that page . This will be so because it will be reduced by the Damping factor in each jump. The Damping factor is usually given a constant value of 0.85, so with each new click you have to make to reach a page that is below this, the PR score will be reduced by 15%. It is, among other things, for this that it is recommended when making the internal linking Web structure of a domain, that it does not have more than 3 levels or clicks, being any URL of the site reachable from the home in a maximum of 3 clicks, so that the amount that reaches the URL is not too reduced. The recommendation not to exceed 3 levels of depth with any URL of your site is also related to the crawlability of your website. On the one hand, because the deeper a certain URL is, the less important it will be for Google, understanding that if content is important, it is not buried at many levels of clicks from the home page of your website. On the other hand, a URL that is a high number of clicks from the home page can be affected by the Crawl Budget (the maximum time assigned to the crawler to explore your website) since we run the risk of the crawl time running out without that deep url being crawled. What are the origins of Pagerank? After telling you schematically what this factor is and how it works, you may be interested in knowing why it was created, invented and popularized. And I say “popularized” in the past tense, because there were many who had this value very present when it came to knowing the authority of a Web to link to it and to know the authority and recognition by Google towards their own domain on the Internet .
